Top 4 Schools In Northeastern Pennsylvania (Public High Schools)

Top 4 Schools: We examined each of the school districts in Lackawanna, Luzerne and Wyoming counties, twenty-three in total, and analyzed the most recent, “made-public” PSSA and SAT scores for these high schools in these districts to discover who, in fact, has the best high school in the region.

There were some interesting findings: In 2012, Wyoming Area Secondary Center led the way with the highest percentage of students in advanced PSSA mathematics (51.6%).  Wilkes-Barre’s Coughlin High was on top when it came to advanced writing skills (PSSA, 25.8%).  Both Back Mountain area high schools ranked in the top 13% of schools in the state for their 2014 SAT scores… Dallas, 1065 (total reading/math), 11.3% and Lake-Lehman, 1055 (total reading/math), 13%.

The four schools below, as well as the three honorable mentions, are not ranked in any order.  In fact, we have made these assessment based upon state statistical findings, which are also available through the links below.  What’s more, these findings though objectively-based, can be subjectively-ranked with others that didn’t make the list based upon added weight given to a particular state scoring system as well as intangibles that may be present within the districts and those communities.
